"It has helped create awareness of subscription moviegoing," Zoradi said.
Cinemark's service costs $8.99 per month and offers members one 2D ticket a month, as well as discounts on concessions and additional tickets. Unused tickets roll over to the next month.
Though some have criticized MoviePass as unsustainable, Zoradi told Deadline he has a "more upbeat view." Last week, MoviePass said that starting Aug. 15 it would offer one $10-a-month plan that lets subscribers see three movies a month, with no peak pricing or restrictions on major films. The move comes after customer backlash to price increases and other changes the company attempted to make to overcome financial hurdles. In July, MoviePass briefly ran out of cash, resulting in outages.
